Tradition with a modern twist

News Reporter Kathryn Tye from the Dartford Messenger recently reviewed her stay at The Dog Inn Wingham for an article in the Dartford Messenger she wrote:-

Tradition with a modern twist at The Dog Inn

The Dog Inn definitely has the wow factor. Any visitors to the Grade II listed venue, situated just a few miles from Canterbury in the charming village of Wingham, could not fail to be delighted by its picture-postcard setting. But once inside, visitors find it is far from the traditional idea of an English inn, instead offering a sophisticated mix of traditional and modern decor, with leather chairs with exposed beam and brick surroundings and unadorned rustic wooden tables. And although providing a lounge area in addition to its dining areas, The Dog Innis primarily food-focused, demonstrated by the accomplished dishes available on Its a la carte menu. The menu remains simple, however, with six options for each course, all with straight forward prices ranging from £4 to £6 for a starter, to between £13 and £19 for a main course.

Emphasisis placed on sourcing local ingredients, and the menu changes to reflect seasonal produce. I chose parma ham, greenbeans, free range poached egg and tarragon vinaigrette for starter, followed by the slow roasted Kent pork belly, with fondant potato and wild thyme jus. Both were presented beautifully and offered a fantastic combination of flavours , and delivered quickly by a friendly member of staff. For dessert I chose chocolate loaf with honey comb icecream, which was definitely the highlight of my meal, which turnedoutto bea delicious colddish, similarto icecream, adorned with strawberries.

At the end of the evening we retired to our room, which again offered an interesting mix of styles, with an ultra modern bath room and flat screen television,  yet traditional bedroom furniture. A fantastic finish to our stay was breakfast the next morning, with orders taken and served to guests by the chef himself. Food lovers looking for a short break in a beautiful setting should look no further than The Dog Inn. The inn is currently offering a three course a la carte dinner, superior double room, and breakfast, for £169 per couple. A lunch menu is available Monday to Friday for £10 for two courses.
